Abstract:

Corrosion of reinforcements used in concrete or in soil affects the lifespan of the structure. The corrosion study determines the rate of corrosion to decide the dimension of the reinforcement to be provided. In this research, an attempt is made to assess the effect of chloride concentration in the reinforcement corrosion. The HYSD bars which are popularly used as reinforcements in concrete and soil is subjected to corrosion in HCl medium with different molarity. The thickness of reinforcement bars is compared before and after corrosion when used as soil reinforcement. The study shows the effect of corrosion on design of reinforcement in soil structures.
