Résumé :

Corrosion affects most industrial sectors, in particular the automotive
sector. It costs billions of dollars every year. Corrosion limits the life of
vehicles and affects the brand image of manufacturers. Forecasting the behavior
of metallic bodywork in the face of corrosion represents a major scientific and
technological challenge.

To delay the phenomenon of corrosion, it is possible to act on the
material, on the surface of the material or on the environment with which the
material is in contact. The use of inhibitors to prevent the process of
dissolving metals remains a widespread application. In fact, inhibitors are
chemicals which, when added in small quantities to the medium, reduce the rate
of corrosion of materials. This review mainly covers important corrosion
inhibitors and their inhibitory effectiveness. The information presented is
derived from study published over the past 10 years, accessed from all major
databases. This choice stems from the high number of studies carried out on the
treatment of corrosion of steels by inhibitors beyond ten years. This review
aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the corrosion problem of cars,
opens up the possibility of using mainly green inhibitors and a basis for
comparison to guide the selection of an appropriate and economical inhibitor
for the case of the automotive industry.
